Grown in the beautiful Wye Valley in Herefordshire, our British Asparagus is a seasonal star. Delicious as a canapé or an elegant accompaniment to any meal, this vegetable has a unique flavour that is prized by chefs and home cooks alike.

The Chinn family run Cobrey Farms in Herefordshire, where they have been harvesting asparagus since 2005. They are proud to be one of the UK’s largest and most innovative asparagus growers, investing heavily into research and development of new crops, varieties and growing techniques.

Harvested in the UK from March to July, the cool British climate allows the asparagus to develop slowly, which creates the full, sweet flavour. Our British asparagus is harvested by hand and hydro-cooled down to a temperature of 2°C within an hour. The team also use creative packaging techniques to help lock in freshness and retain consistent high quality and flavour.

Prized by chefs

Did you know that ancient Greeks and Romans loved asparagus and a recipe for it features in one of the oldest surviving recipe books – Apicius’ De re coquinaria from the first century AD. Modern day chefs are just as enamoured. Raymond Blanc, chef patron of Michelin-starred restaurant Le Manoir said: “We at Le Manoir strongly believe that everyone should enjoy good food made from the very best ingredients and prepared with care and imagination. I have no doubt that fresh vegetables in season have the very best flavour and British asparagus is a great example of that.”

Healthy and tasty

Did you know that asparagus is packed with vitamin A, folic acid and fibre, as well as being high in protein, cholesterol-free and low in fat? It also contains high levels of potassium which helps to maintain a healthy blood pressure.

Asparagus can be eaten raw but it is also super easy to cook – steam, boil, griddle, BBQ or microwave. You just need to soften to taste, taking just 5 minutes to boil or steam and 8 minutes under the grill or on the BBQ.
